We got married in July of 2011, on Will's birthday, no less. He spent childhood summers in Christmas Cove (in mid-coast Maine) and over the seven years of our "courtship," we spent a good deal of time there, so I came to love it as much as he did. We chose the Contented Sole, a lobster shack on the water, because it was informal and came with tons of character. I did not want to get married in a white tent.
Our flowers were by Juliet and Sierra of Poppies and Posies. Not only are they tremendously talented, Juliet grew up spending summers in Christmas Cove, and Will taught her sailing. I had admired their work before I made the connection, and I'm thrilled that I did. They stuck to a mostly white and green color palette, but added little surprises like rosemary, figs, and blackberries to many of the arrangements. Our ceremony was at Fort William Henry on the Pemaquid Peninsula, overlooking Johns Bay, and all of our guests stayed at the Bradley Inn.
My friend Ana Lucia Rosales-Boujnah designed our menus and programs, while Jenna Hein of Love, Jenna did our calligraphy. My meetings with Jenna at One Girl Cookies in Cobble Hill were a highlight of the wedding planning process. Sticky Fingers, a local bakery, made our dark chocolate and buttercream cake, while my dress came from Amsale.
Last but not least, Michael Antonia of The Flashdance was our DJ. He came from LA for the occasion and my friends are still raving about how amazing he was.
Before we got married, we participated in a feature for Brides New York. My friend Leigh took inspiration from our apartment to suggest a design scheme for our wedding. We wound up using Poppies and Posies as our florist. And there were figs! I also "modelled" for a story she did on re-purposing bridesmaid's dresses. Check out her stories, below:
