Show and Tell

Williamsburg, 2015

Axel often asks if Ozzy can come to nursery with him (and Oscar cries when Axel leaves on school days) so both of them were thrilled with today's family breakfast in Axel's classroom. Axel is still big on introductions and said, "I love my friend Ozzy."

These guys are the best.

Firsts

Axel, 2015

Axel went to his first Yankees game this weekend and saw his first bout of subway breakdancing.  He was very pleased with the outing even if I'm not sure he got much out of the actual game.

Summer Kickoff

Brooklyn, 2015

It's not quite Maine or Montauk, but we've rung in summer nonetheless with a few rooftop parties, a visit to Brooklyn Crab (Axel's new favorite place on earth), and Steve's Key Lime Pie.

Work, Work, Play

Williamsburg, 2015

Here's me and Ozzy (and his belly) after three toddler birthday parties this weekend, which is definitely an endurance pursuit. It was a little crazy, to the point that Monday, which was a 12 hour work day full of major deadlines, seemed pretty zen.

Anyway, I've been reading lots of interesting articles here and there.

Like this one, on 'Faking Bravery' for your kids. As a kid, I was afraid of (in no particular order) moss, raw chicken, fire, the car rolling backwards, the dark, the ocean, snakes, and heights. I am still easily spooked. Definitely need to work on this one with my two.

And this one, 'Training for Discontent', on the culture of pressure in Silicon Valley. It's about kids and school, mainly, but also about how all of the adults around them are stress monsters and how it's this weird feedback loop.

Here's another one, on 'Mom: The Designated Worrier'. We have a theme, people! Gosh, it sounds like we need a drink over here. But really, all thought-provoking pieces.

On a lighter note, I LOVED this restaurant review, which made me laugh out loud. Maybe we won't be checking out Javelina.

May Days

Williamsburg, 2015

Life is especially hectic in these next several weeks, but then that seems to be a theme. I keep thinking I'll catch my breath after the next hill of work or interruption in the boy's sleep patterns and then I remember: oh yeah, that that will probably happen in, say, fifteen to twenty years.

There are a lot of opposites that are true right now. We are having a wonderful time; we are totally overwhelmed. We love our life in New York; we are over-caffeinated work zombies! We've totally cracked life in the city; life in the city is ridiculous, and how much are these virgin-picked coffee beans?

One thing that's made everything that much easier is the beautiful weather of late. We've had picnics in the park and the boys come home happily covered in dirt. Axel is scooting everywhere and Oscar loves to roam free at the playground. It's nearly BBQ season and we got some new porch furniture and there are birds chirping and horns honking as I type this. Perfection!

We've also done pancakes at Kasia's, our little trapped-in-time local diner, which I think should be a weekly tradition because pancakes seem to cure all ills. Everything is in bloom, everyone is out on the street, and the place has an amazing energy.

Oscar: Fourteen Months Old

Oscar, 2015

A sunny but exhausting weekend here for no other reasons than the usual ones (but Oscar took about five steps this afternoon!)

And here's a look back at Axel at the same age.
