Bonfire

Maine, 2014

A few of the cousins leave early tomorrow so we had a post-dinner bonfire for the little kids. Axel has zero interest in eating his marshmallows, all the better for the grownups, er, me.

It's pretty rare to get the four of us in one picture, but here we are, tan lines galore...

Rain in Maine

Maine, 2014

It's raining pretty hard up here so Axel has been busying himself with buckets and salad spinners and various household chores. We took advantage of a rare quiet moment to give Oscar his first taste of solids...the banana was a hit. I love the furrowed brow and post-banana afterglow.

Lately

Maine, 2014

Chores, hikes, and cousins galore. I know I am a big devotee of the big city, but it's lovely to see Axel learn words like moss, mushrooms, and lobster boat (instead of helicopter, ambulance, and pigeon!)

Boys

Maine, 2014

I have my moments of feeling overwhelmed from the sleep deprivation but you can't deny that these fellows are having the time of their little lives up here.

Etc.

Maine, 2014

Spent the morning at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, which are really beautiful. There's even a little children's garden with frogs, chickens, a treehouse, fairy houses, and lots of little nooks and crannies. We walked a bit on gorgeous groomed trails that smell like pine trees. After that it was oysters from Glidden Point and a hair raising model boat race.

Beach Day

Maine, 2014

I haven't taken much time to write posts up here as we've been so happily offline most of the time. I just scramble to upload a few photos so we'll remember how jam packed (in a good way) each day here has been. Axel is having so many new experiences and is developing by leaps and strides, jabbering away. Yesterday in the car he said 'I love mama, I love papa, I love Oscar." Melt! He's also counting to eleven and talking a lot about diggers, crocodiles, and bumble bees.

In just over three weeks here, I've also gotten considerably less wound up about his routine and the feeling that our sanity depends so much on sticking to it. Long live summer rules, I guess. I am still beyond tired much of the time, but somehow a little less on edge.

Chebeague Island

Maine, 2014

The four of us had a fun little escape to Chebeague Island last night. We took the ferry from Yarmouth and stayed at the Chebeague Island Inn, which has a deep shaded porch and gorgeous views over Casco Bay.

Then we made a pitstop in Portland for lunch at a fabulous oyster joint called Eventide and even braved Freeport. It's nice to be back 'home' (away from home) after schlepping all of our babies and gear across the state, but it was a worthwhile adventure nonetheless.
