Weekend

Brooklyn, 2015

We had a great Brooklyn weekend: brunch at Cafe Mogador; a trip to the McCarren Park Pool; dinner at Roman's, and plenty of time in the sprinklers and on the deck.

It definitely has that last-week-of-summer feel around here...on Friday, Axel wrapped up two successful week of camp at Streb and there's one more week until school starts up.

We've been packing adventures into ever inch of the weekend days lately. There's a great buzz around Brooklyn at the moment and I feel so happy to be rooted here in this community. It's kind of amazing that a place that's so rich with adult diversions is also so great for the little guys.

Stone Barns

New York, 2015

We took the kids to the farm at Stone Barns over the weekend and they got to run around and take a peek at some goats, chickens, and sheep.

It was a success, overall, but I am starting to feel quite pregnant and the relentless August heat is definitely wearing thin (plus: toddlers at loose in a field of chickens is not actually a relaxing thing, as wholesome as it sounds in theory.)

Mainly I am enjoying the rhythm of work and the Brooklyn days when we stick close to home and the kids run around on the roof deck, eat pizza from L'Isola, splash about in paddling pools, and build forts out of couch cushions (while I take refuge in the AC and solace in the fact that I only have 15 weeks to go until this baby is here!)

This is happening, folks.

I am also, nerdily, so very excited for the cooler fall and the start of a new year at nursery for Axel, plus a new slate of activities for the kids and festive occasions like Halloween around the corner.

It feels a little like we are in countown mode (as evidenced by my desire to reorganize our apartment), but I am trying to take things day by day and soak in the final months of being a family of four and able to fit into our Prius.

(Anything But) Routine

New York, 2015

Back at work on a fun interiors story (all will be revealed soon), and marveling at New York in general. How much you see in a day; how people find success here doing things that border on the absurd; how eccentricity and diversity and ambition and possibility all co-exist here.

It's always interesting to see the city with new eyes and to navigate our little Brooklyn routine with a slightly altered perspective. Today I thought how lucky we are to have carved out lives for ourselves here, and how lucky the kids are to experience childhood here, surrounded by so much explosive creativity and so many unusual characters.

Sizzle

Brooklyn, 2015

Apart from the fact that it's broiling, baking, and unbearably hot here, it's been wonderful to be home and we are indeed straight back into it: work, haircuts, a date to Kings County Imperial, rooftop antics, and a trip to Jacob Riis beach in the Rockaways.

After a time away, it feels really exciting to be back in the city, with so much visual stimulation (even while it is a bit of a culture shock.) So many people, so many things to take in. I think it's a good thing when you are away for long enough that you miss your day to day life; and what a fun, bizarre, and full throttle place Brooklyn is to come home to.

The boys were back in their groove immediately, and seemed very happy to be reunited with their toys and routine, such as it is. My current mood? Sunstruck.

New York, New York

Maine, 2015

The weather turned today, almost as if to say it's time to pack up and head south. And so tomorrow we are driving back to the city with all of our summer wares and two little boys who have grown up a great deal over six weeks in Maine. It will be tough to say goodbye to these stunning views and the country sounds of wind in the trees (and screaming kids, ha!), but I'm looking forward to work, the new school year ahead for Axel and all that's to come for us this fall.

There will be a few more Maine pictures to come, I am sure, but soon it's back to street art and circus school!

Three!

Axel, 2015

Axel had a wonderful birthday, surrounded by green cupcakes (per his request), cousins, and plenty of mayhem.
