Day Six

Oscar, 2014

As I write this, all three boys are asleep (Will, Axel, and Oscar); all four boys if you count Sealface. Don't get me wrong, we have had our stressful, exhausted, hormone-filled moments this week. But yesterday we also celebrated Oscar's arrival and the birth of our friends' baby one day later with a leisurely lunch at Reynard's (that's Oscar getting swaddled in a corner booth.) This morning, we made the most of the 50 degree temperatures and took both boys to the playground, where it felt like "We've got this down!" We all got some fresh air which helped to fight off our cabin fever.

After a few pretty rough nights, Oscar also did pretty well last night, sleeping for two 3-hour-long stretches. I know that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to sleep like that every night, but it was definitely the longest I'd slept since his arrival. Cluster feeding is no joke, and our evenings between 8 and about 2 have been pretty intense, but when I'm able to catch up later in the night it doesn't feel quite so bleak.

Plus, look at that spiky hair!

At Home

Oscar, 2014

We arrived home this afternoon and have been settling in with Oscar, who was introduced to Brooklyn and had his first lunch out with his mama and papa at Cafe Colette today.

After what felt like a very speedy delivery on Sunday (more on that later), it was an adjustment being in the hospital with Will juggling Axel at home for part of the time.

The art of caring for a newborn feels a lot easier this time around, but the logistics of everything are just a little more complicated.

I'm still in awe of the whole process of pregnancy and birth...how one day you're walking to Greenpoint, 40 weeks pregnant, and the next you're sitting there with a new baby beside you.
