Just home from our first big, ambitious trip to the UK with all three boys (well, the Virgin Islands was ambitious too but this time we crossed an ocean and Bo was on the move)!

And all in it was a success, even if they never adapted to the time zone and were swinging from the rafters until 11 p.m., bless them. Sleep antics aside, I think they all got a taste of English country life, visiting Hampton Court Palace, feeding sheep, and taking muddy, frosty walks to the pub. We spent most of our time in Surrey near their aunt, uncle, and cousins, but we did dip into London for a few days so they had a glimpse of their first double decker buses and a tube ride.

The flights were...interesting, but now that we've all had a night to sleep in our own beds I can feel my sense of humor returning.

Homeward Bound

After two straight days of climbing up impossibly steep hills and Inca-built roads, I am packing my bags and preparing for 24 hours of travel home. I can't wait to see the kids and tell them all about my adventures in the mountains...

The Sacred Valley

On Saturday I descended from Cuzco into the heart of the Sacred Valley, where every vista is more astonishing than the last.

There are Inca ruins in just about every little hamlet, and old Inca terraces and paths winding through the mountains, perfect for challenging hikes. It's been an up-at-five to get ready for the next big trek kind of holiday so far, but it's such a beautiful place I'm glad to be making the most of every minute.

Walkabout

Hi there! So this morning (after a looong travel day I'd prefer to erase from memory) I woke up around dawn in Cuzco, Peru.

Last winter an opportunity came up to set off on a great adventure without Will or the kids and I just couldn't turn it down. It was incredibly hard to leave the boys, but I'm excited to retrieve some little corner of my own brain this week and to see some beautiful, faraway places.
