I am thrilled to be spending my due date with Axel at home instead of downing castor oil and trying acupressure. What a good, prompt little kiddo.
We arrived home from the hospital yesterday (my 34th birthday) at around 3 p.m. after a quick lunch out at Enid's (straight from NYU.) I think the waitress was a little surprised to see his hospital bracelets still attached and we got a free brownie with ice cream to celebrate. Our birthday / homecoming festivities continued at home with some good friends over for a roast chicken, quinoa, and peas out on the balcony with Axel in his new sling. Since Monday I have been starving! Birthday breakfast in bed, even hospital food, never tasted so good.
The first night home was long but good. Bambino seems to like his bassinet and let me sleep for a few hour long stretches. We all woke up at 8:30 which felt miraculous.
Today's order of business? Catching up on emails to all of our well wishers, a visit to the Verb (a place Axel will no doubt recognize from his daily jaunts there in utero), and a trip to Caribou Baby to get a little more adept with the sling, which I love already. They do demos there and also have a breastfeeding support group. We may also swing by the park to introduce Axel to my Brooklyn summer moms group, who all have brand new babes as well.
So far, Axel's most hilarious trick is looking like a perfect peaceful sleeping angel when visitors are here and then crying bloody murder when it's just the three of us. What a jokester.
SO cute!!! So happy for you guys. And happy birthday!
