Well, my full moon dance last night was not a labor-provoking success! At least not yet.
Aside from a bit of general crampiness I am feeling much the same as I have been for a few weeks now. Though Will and I have been joking that I don't want to start any of the induction voodoo (Evening Primrose oil, acupuncture, etc. etc.) until after the weekend because I'd really like to see the new Woody Allen movie about Rome before the baby arrives.
Other than that, I am getting the sense that we are "ready," whatever that means. On Monday night we had a private session from a doula at Birth Day Presence on newborn care and breastfeeding. I learned that the tabs of a diaper are on the back, which was a revelation. Seriously. My swaddling technique could use some work though.
I also swung by Caribou Baby for a demo on how to use a ring sling with a newborn. I bought this Sakura sling, which is reversible and a really nice texture of linen (in mint and driftwood, which I figure is manly enough for Will to use as well.) The car seat is so clunky and heavy I think we'll be doing a lot of baby wearing instead.
Also stocked up on some newborn diapers, some cloth wipes, and some coconut oil for changes. Our instructor recommended we keep the use of disposable wipes to a minimum, and use cloth and warm water or coconut oil at home which made plenty of sense to me.
Now I guess I just have to be patient? I have a doctor's appointment at noon so we'll see if I've made any progress. I am up about 17 pounds to date and things seem to be leveling off there. I have no idea how I did not gain 40+ pounds. It's a mystery to me, but I'll take it.
