Gear: The Great Glider Debate

via West Elm

This weekend, we're picking up a crib that a friend's child has grown out of and I'm thrilled. We wont assemble it any time soon, but it feels good to have such a big item ticked off the list. Since I've returned from my holiday, I've been voraciously consuming posts like this one, of bloggers' baby essentials, care of Kath Younger.

I'd been resisting the idea of a glider, in part because the cheap and cheerful ones tend to be so darn ugly and the fancy ones, like this puppy from Anthropologie, is a little above and beyond. But a few mothers seem to insist that something to rock the baby to sleep in is a life saver. I just stumbled on this fellow from West Elm and I think it might make for a happy middle ground (plus it's something that wouldn't look absurd in our living room down the line.)

What do you think? Essential or not (think small spaces, people!)

  1. I spent a lot of time worrying about the perfect glider before Ror arrived. Then, at my sister-in-law's recommendation, we settled for the Ikea POÄNG chair and ottoman. It's cheap, comfortable, and has worked out really well. It used to be our favorite nursing spot and now it's where we read "The Duckling Gets a Cookie?" and "Along a Long Road" before bedtime. It would look absurd anywhere outside of Ror's room, so once we're done with it we will donate or sell.
